A Trip to the Hospital

Weekend before last we spent at the hospital with my mother-in-law. On that Thursday she was walking her dog, Sadie got away from her so she stepped on the leash to stop her. Well, it didn’t stop her, she just pulled my MIL off her feet! She landed on her right hip, they said it almost split in two. That was Thursday morning, she was not able to have surgery until Saturday morning because they had to regulate her Coumadin (blood thinner) first. Then the morning of the surgery, they woke her up at 5:30am to start prepping her. They had to give her some plasma to further thicken her blood. Well, they didn’t actually start giving it to her until 8:00am, which is when the surgery was scheduled. So then the nurses are being pressured to get the plasma going. Well, my MIL has had some bad experiences when it comes to surgery, she almost died from a colonoscopy because they punctured her intestine, which is really bad when you are on a blood thinner. The nurse was really nice, but she was not thinking. They were thinking out loud, something that you really shouldn’t do when you are rushing around a nervous patient about to go into surgery. One comment she made was, “I wonder how fast we can shove this in.” Not exactly a comforting thing to hear. There is nothing wrong with what she said, she just shouldn’t have done it in front of my MIL. So then my MIL is getting more nervous and starts having chest pains. The nurse seemed more occupied with getting the plasma in than the chest pains. They ended up doing a couple of EKG’s and they were fine, she was having a panic attack. It was such a mess. They finally got all the plasma “shoved” into her and took her back for surgery. Everything went great. They had her up out of bed on Sunday, started physical therapy on Tuesday, and she was home this past Monday. The dat they were going to let her go, I thought she was going to walk out of that hospital without being released. They said she would probably be released before Noon, because they would have to charge her for another day if not. Well, she didn’t get home until 8pm. Her doctor was having a really rough day and couldn’t get up to check her before officially releasing her. Boy was she mad!!! All is well now, she is home and doing well. Don’t get me wrong, I think doctors and nurses and the such have very difficult jobs. Like the nurse before surgery, she seemed really nice, I just don’t think she was thinking about how her words would affect her patient. People in the medical field definitely have my respect.

Butterfly detail

Well, it’s been awhile since I’ve done much stitching. The above is a close-up of a butterfly I did on a onesie for a co-worker. It looks better in real life. I found I don’t like stitching on onesie’s though, the fabric is way too stretchy. Not that I wouldn’t do it again, it’s just not as enjoyable for me. I’ve got a few little projects I’ve been working on……..CHRISTmas ornaments! I know, may will say it’s too early, but it’s not when you are making things, it’s time consuming. Rachel (who is already listening to CHRISTmas music) I know will be proud. I would like to start learning some new stitches, but I’m very intimidated by it. I think I just need to do more practicing the ones I do and slowly incorporate other stitches. My biggest challenge is always trying ot figure out what to stitch on what……..I’m really not that creative. Once I get going on a project though, I LOVE stitching.

Last week I had an interesting experience, I went to a Habitat of Humanity Dinner & Fashion Show. The tickets were $300 per table, paid by our company. It was a nice time to get to know some of my co-workers a little better. It was a ladies night out. Good food, good company. The fashion show left a little to be desired, mostly because we couldn’t understand anything they were saying. The kids were entertaining though. There was a little girl, probably about 3 who would just walk down the runway aggressively waiving at everyone. Everyone got the biggest kick out of her, she was such a doll. Heather had a “non-date” date (long story for another blog) that night so hubby got the evening to himself. He was stuck at home though, because I ended up with his keys so he couldn’t go anywhere. I stopped an got him some food on the way home, so he was happy. :o )

7 Years of Blessings

Filed under: Uncategorized — by praiz @ 6:57 am

On August 19th my hubby and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary! It seems like we were married just yesterday. It has been a wonderful 7 years! Don’t get me wrong, we’ve had our ups and downs and lots of challenges, but the journey has been good. :o )

Sorry I didn’t update “tomorrow” like I said I would in the last post. As far as jury duty goes, there were 5 groups of us and all they needed was 1. They said they started the week out with 30-something cases and ended up with only 2. The rest of the cases were resolved, dismissed or such. I was in group 4, they chose the jurors from the first 2 groups so I didn’t even get the opportunity to be rejected.

Work is getting much better, I don’t have that drowning feeling anymore. I’m still very busy and have to make a conscious effort not to get overwhelmed when things pile up. At times I can complete things as they come in and other times I have a pile of paperwork that I have to work through. In those times I have to remind myself I can only do what I can do and it will get done. I’m coming to the end of one of those this week. I’m finally caught up with paperwork so that I can do some of the other things I need to do. I may have several people hand in things today and it might start all over again, but I am learning to handle it without freaking out.

One of my favorite blogs to read is The Homespun Heart she is so creative! Check out her Evening in Avonlea Party, how neat is that?!?
